Disturbia Versus Rear Window

Disturbia was the 2007 movie remake of Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock. Finishing Rear Window and then watching Disturbia made me realize many differences yet similarities between both films despite their time differences. The biggest difference yet the one that made the film more interesting is the fact that the main character, Kalb, in Disturbia is on house arrest unlike Jefferies who was bound to his home due to the broken leg. This gave the film a huge make over and put a modern twist on the movie. The plots were so what similar in which there was a killer and both main characters try and stop them by using spying techniques. Another similarity was how Ashley and Lisa love the main characters a lot but the main characters are more drawn to solving the mystery.  In Distrubia, Ashley and Kalb are in his room and he is going on and on about the mystery of how his neighbor might be a killer when they are alone and the girl really likes him. Another minor similarity is how Ronnie and Stella play roles in helping the main character try to solve the mystery. A second minor similarity was Ms.Torso which happened to be Ashley in Disturbia and Ashley was also another Lisa Fremont which was interesting. But I felt as the plot of Disturbia was amazing but too predictable because it was as there is a killer and it leads to this and that which made me love Rear Window more since it showed me more of the older way of how film was. It felt more interesting and I learned a lot from Rear Window. I thought the Distrurbia plot was amazing because it involved Kelbs mother who is very important in his life and the scenes in which he tries to save her is really intense which made it interesting. I like the choice of music that Disturbia had in their scenes because I felt like it really captured the emotions that go accordingly with the scene. In addition, the choice of shots they had for particular scenes was smart also because with the music, scene and shot choice, it bought or made the viewers convey some type of emotion. For example, in Disturbia during the part in which Kalb's car got hit twice and he escaped to check on his dad, there was a close up on his face and the music was slow and sad which helped convey the sad and depressing emotions. However, I thought the most unique thing about Rear Window that made me love it more than Disturbia was the fact that there were many different angles and scenes which made it look like channels of a television. The fact that we get many views from the main characters eyes and that it was a movie inside a movie was an amazing and interesting experience since we don't see that in movies nowadays. I wouldn't chose one over the other because each had their own positive aspects that stood out from the other. I would watch both because they are both good movies and really enjoyable.
